Helping Islands Adapt Promoting Biodiversity and the Eradication of Invasive Species

Helping Islands Adapt was a workshop hosted in the Hyatt Regency Auckland Hotel on the 11-16 of April 2010. The purpose of the workshop was to promote biodiversity by combating invasive species and adapting to climate change.

The workshop covered a variety of topics presented by international and local speakers. Areas covered include the eradication of invasive species in the islands of Mexico which included the achievements, challenges and lessons learned, Japan's current plan on Invasive Alien Species Management and the progress report on the current operation in the Pacific.

Workshop participants were also invited on a trip to Rangitoto Island. The purpose of the visit was to pass on the lessons learned from a recent pest eradication program carried out by the Department of Conservation. Costs related to the travel to and from Rangitoto Island was covered by the Workshop hosts.
